Frequently Asked Questions
A: Studies have shown that students do better in school when their parents/guardians are actively involved.
A: Membership in the Sequoyah PTA is $15 per year for an individual, or $20 per year for a family (i.e., both parents/guardians).
A: A portion of your dues supports the national and local PTA organizations that provide training, materials, and advice to our PTA officers. The remainder of your membership dues is used by our school and PTA for the many programs for our children -- programs such as Mad Science, Cultural Arts, International Night, 5th Grade Farewell, Teacher Appreciation Week, Staff Hospitality, Chess Club, and many, many more!
A: Sequoyah strives to provide the best education for our children and looks for opportunities to make them healthy, happy, productive, and successful members of our community. While Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) makes many programs possible, Sequoyah staff, teachers, and the PTA believe that the PTA-supported programs provide valuable experiences for the students. The income generated from Sequoyah PTA's fundraisers directly fund these programs and make them possible.
A: Your participation in fundraisers should not feel like an obligation. There are many ways you can support Sequoyah PTA's fundraising efforts. Some of our fundraisers require no effort on your part other than a one-time -- or an annual -- registration. This includes the Giant Bonus Bucks, Safeway eScrip, Food Lion "LionShop and Share", and Target Take Charge of Education rewards programs. Once you sign up, a percentage of your purchases is given to Sequoyah Elementary or the PTA. Other fundraisers are family events that allow you to spend quality time with your children and socialize with other members of the Sequoyah community. The variety of fundraisers is intended to give Sequoyah supporters options they are comfortable with.
But yes, Sequoyah PTA also accepts donations. If you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation to the PTA, please contact Jim Crichton (PTA Treasurer) or Tina Webb (PTA President). Your contributions - in every form - are greatly appreciated and help us make Sequoyah the best it can be.
